Albuquerque Journal Obituaries (1) SERRANO, ADOLFO C. age 99, passed away on November 18, 2012 at the Senior Community Services Assisted Living in Santa Rosa following an illness. Adolfo was born July 16, 1913 in Santa Rosa, NM to the home of Simon and Petrita (Chavez) Serrano and was reared by his uncle and aunt Martin and Petrita Giddings Serrano. He married Margie Reeves on December 21, 1938 in Santa Rosa, NM Adolfo served as the Guadalupe County Assessor and Guadalupe County Deputy Sheriff for several years. He ran a gas station and most recently Chief Auto Parts for many years. He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Parish, the Lions Club, and New Mexico Cattle Growers Association and served on the Board of Public Works for the City of Santa Rosa for 40 plus years. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Margie; brothers and sisters, Luciano Serrano, Simon Serrano, Zulema Nichols, Luis P. Serrano, Frank B. Serrano and Eslinda Sanchez; his brother and sisters-in-law, Mary Serrano, Pita Serrano, Tom Nichols, Ofelia Serrano, Antonia Serrano, Speedy Sanchez and Nap Romo. Survivors include his brothers and sister, Zolio Serrano and wife Vicky of Albuquerque, Alice Romo of Coppell, TX, Robert E. Serrano of Santa Rosa, Charlie Serrano and wife Angie of Santa Rosa; and a sister-in-law, Dulce Serrano of Amarillo, TX; along with numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Cremation will take place and a Memorial Rosary will be celebrated on Monday, November 26, 2012 at 10:00 AM from St. Rose of Lima Church with the Funeral Mass celebrated immediately after the rosary. Albuquerque Journal Obituaries (5) CHAVES, MARGARET (PEGGY) GREER Age 48, passed away on November 2, 2012 after a 17 month battle with brain cancer. She was born January 12, 1964 in Ft. Eustis, VA to W. Gerald and Suzanne Owens. Peggy is survived by her husband, Rob; her five daughters Dorothy, 17, Elizabeth, 16, Meghan, 14, Katharine, 10, and Jennifer, 7; her brothers and sisters-in-law Stephen and Sherry Owens, Jeffrey and Julie Owens, and Michael Owens; her grandmother, and eight nieces and nephews. Peggy was raised in Birmingham, AL and Naperville, IL, graduating from Naperville Central High School in 1982. She attended Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI where she graduated in 1986 with a BS degree in Medical Technology. Upon graduation she joined her family in California and worked as a medical technologist at the City of Hope. After a while, she decided to pursue other avenues of interest and moved to Albuquerque to attend the University of New Mexico. She met Rob while working as med tech at the SED Labs in Albuquerque. They were married on September 17, 1994. Peggy was a vibrant and beautiful person who loved to sing and dance. Her love of children led her to teaching ballet to young students and then on to the classroom as a preschool teacher. She was very dedicated to her God and her family, enjoying all that came her way. Peggy will be greatly missed! A Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 7, 2012 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary being recited at 7:00 p.m. at Daniels Family Funeral Services - Southern Chapel, 2400 Southern Blvd SE, Rio Rancho, NM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, November 8, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 1502 Sara Rd SE, Rio Rancho, NM. LANGELL, BOBBY (BOB) ARLEN Age 80, passed away peacefully on September 24, 2012, in San Francisco, CA. He was surrounded by his dear friends, Jose Velasquez, Larry Schram, Cruz Mendoza, and Juan Manuel Bravo, and his niece, Debbie Galloway. Born September 15, 1932, in Wooster, Ohio, Bob moved to Albuquerque in 1945. He graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1950, and then earned his bachelor's degree in Fine Arts at the University of New Mexico. Bob entered the Navy in 1956. After serving his country, Bob returned to Albuquerque, where he opened Langell's Art Supply, later renamed New Mexico Art Supply across from U.N.M. and Poorman's Picture Framing on Central. In the 1960s, he moved to Oakland, CA, where he opened Robert's Art Supply, later renamed California Art Supply. He closed his stores and retired over ten years ago. In addition to being a successful business man, Bob was a singer, actor, and painter. He loved to travel, and even climbed from the outside the great pyramids in Cairo. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, and was a loving brother, uncle, and friend. His presence and enormous generosity will be dearly missed. He is survived by his sister, Karen Langell Rose; and his brother, John Langell; many nieces and nephews and their children. His parents, Jack and Ethel Langell, and his brother Dick preceded him in death. Bob will be laid to rest at Mountain View Cemetery in Oakland, CA, on Monday, September 30, 2012. Albuquerque Journal Obituaries (21) ROY -- LEROY J. Age 72, a life time resident of Wagon Mound, NM, passed away on Sunday, September 2, 2012. He was born on September 13, 1939 in Dawson, New Mexico to Alexander Roy and Margarita Duran. He served in the U.S. Air force as a A1C E-4 from May 1960 to January 1964. He owned and operated Leroy's Grocery Store in Wagon Mound, NM with his wife Julia for 46 years. He retired as a Juvenile Corrections Officer after 18 years of employment with the State of New Mexico. He was a Catholic and a member of the Santa Clara Church in Wagon Mound, New Mexico. He was fond of fishing, hunting, camping and family get togethers. He enjoyed watching Days of Our Lives and listening to the oldies. He was also a skilled Carpenter, building much of his home and store him self. He was active with Wagon Mound Public Schools as a School Board Member, scorekeeper and bus driver for the Trojans also coaching Little League and participating in other activities. He was preceded in death by his parents: Alexander Roy and Margarita Faulkner; maternal grandparents: Castulo and Adela Duran; paternal grandparents: Joseph Elfido Roy and Ameilia; brothers: Carson Roy, Clark Roy and Ronnie Roy; sisters: Eileen Wade and Shirley Davis; mother and father in-law: Jose and Antonia Sanchez. He is survived by his wife of 47 years Julia S. Roy of the family home; children: Chris Roy (Cynthia) of Albuquerque, NM, Lorne Roy (Janet) of Northglenn, CO, Lorraine Montoya (Michael) of Raton, NM, Lester Roy (Chanella) of Glendale, AZ, Laverne Martinez (Jerry) of Hurley, NM, Larkin Roy and partner Tim Ferraro of Trinidad, CO and Robin Roy-Nordstrom (Kevin) of Prescott, AZ; seventeen grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and one on the way; special niece and goddaughter: Stephanie Vallejos; special godson: Filbert Lopez; brothers: Clyde Roy of Brighton, CO and Reno Roy of Commerce City, CO; sister: Marlene Tomlinson of Santa Rosa, CA. Albuquerque Journal Obituaries (25) DURAN -- MELA M (MONTOYA) a lifelong resident of Old Town, Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, August 11, 2012. Mrs. Duran is survived by her sister, Rose M. Zamora, also a lifelong resident of Old Town; sister-in-law, Jessie Montoya (wife of Pano Montoya); many nieces, nephews, and special friends. Mrs. Duran was preceded in death by her husband, Cleto N. Duran, who passed away on April 2nd, 2011; her parents, Fidel and Sofronia Montoya; siblings, Fidel Montoya, wife, Anita; Flossie Cordova husband, Richard; Aurelio (Lelo) Montoya, and Cipriano (Pano) Montoya. Mrs. Duran and her late husband Cleto, spent a lifetime serving their beloved church, San Felipe de Neri, located in historic Old Town. Their love of the Lord and strong faith allowed them to mentor and support many friends and family. Mela was involved in teaching Catechism, and worked diligently to create and collect Arts and Crafts items for the Church Fiestas and was a member of Sacred Heart League and The Blue Army. Mela was a hair stylist for many years working at Flossie's Beauty Shop. The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to her special angels who loving cared for her, Viola Vaisa, Maria Dresser, Lynne Cox, Patricia Davis, Heather Nutter, and Vangie Montoya. Albuquerque Journal Obituaries (29) ROMERO -- FLORA GARCIA At home with her loving family in El Alto, Flora Garcia Romero, age 94, met our Lord on August 8, 2012. Flora Leonides Garcia was born on July 30, 1918 in Ledoux, New Mexico, Mora County to the union of Perpetua Vigil and Alfonso Garcia. After her mother died, Flora at the age of 12 together with her older sister Gertrude helped raise her younger siblings. Flora met and married her lifelong love Nicomedez Romero on May 23, 1942 during the start of WW II. Nico enlisted in the US Army three months later and along with four other brothers served overseas together. In the intervening years Flora saw her husband only once while raising her oldest child Nicomedez Geraldo in the community of EI Alto until he returned 2 1/2 years later. Flora was preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years on July 3, 1998; parents, mother and father-in-laws Rita and Milnor Romero; sisters, Gertrude Esquibel (Martin), Maria Padilla (Tony); son-in-law and grandson Ed and Steven Journey; and a very special daughter-in-law, Avelina Branch Romero in May 1967 after which Flora along with Nico assumed the parenting of her grandchildren, Carla, Jerome and Geraldine, whom they adopted. Also preceded in death by her sisters-in-law Martha, Nea, Cecilia, Nora, Valentina, Lucretia; brothers-in-law Guadalupe, Roberto, Milnor, Esequiel and Ernesto. Flora is survived by five daughters, Jeana Journey of Rio Rancho, Frances Romero and Carla Martinez (Leslie) of Albuquerque, Angela Romero (Frank) of Mora, Geraldine Coleman (Joseph) of Arvada, Co.; and four sons, Nicomedez (Jerry) Romero (Donna),John T. Romero (Elizabeth), Alfonso Romero all of Mora and Jerome Romero(Gaynor) of Australia. Also surviving are two sisters, Bercy Espinoza (Dan) of Mora and Sophia Ball and of Cheyenne, Wyo; two brothers, Domingo Garcia (Della) of Denver, Co., and Ernest Paul Garcia (Ann) of Albuquerque. Also surviving her are 17 grandchildren, Carla, Jerome, Geraldine, Flora Gale, Ricky, Joseph, Joan, Andrea, Cecilia, Amanda, John Jr., ,Natalie, Nicole, Harry Jr., Amos Nick, Kathleen and Nicholas; 34 great-grandchildren, Joey, Brittany, Mark Jr., Derrick, Ricky, Ryan, Madeline, Morgan, Taylor, Asa, Asher, Jadyn, Matthew, Candace, Bryan, Katie, Isaiah, Chrissy, Hailey, Noah, Jordyn, Jaylan, Lauryn, Brooke, Danisha, Randy, Abrianna, Isaac, Jacob, Jovone, Kaitlyn, Jeremiah, Jasmine and Abram; two great-great-grandchildren, Cayden and Taylah; two sisters-in-law, Beatrice Romero and Amelia Romero; and three brothers-in-law Guillermo Romero, Luis Romero and George Martinez. A lifelong parishioner of Santa Gertrudis Catholic Parish, Flora always strived to have her children and grandchildren be faithful to God. She was loved by many as she never had a bad thing to say about anyone. We especially feel blessed for the great dedication given to mom by granddaughter/daughter Carla Martinez during the past 3 1/2 months. Pallbearers- John T Romero Jr, Amos Nick Romero, Nicholas Luna, Harry Romero Jr. Joseph Romero and Kathleen Romero. Honorary Pallbearers will be all her grandchildren. Rosary Devotional Services will be conducted at Santa Gertrudis Catholic Church in Mora, NM at 7:00 PM on Friday, August 10, 2012.
