San Jose State South Bay Showcase Day One Recap (2024)

San Jose State hosted their first South Bay Showcase on Monday, the first of two days in Silicon Valley.

Under new head coach Ken Niumatalolo,Garrett Wolfe, San Jose State's Assistant Athletics Director for Football Operations, who helped create the Sacramento State Mega Camp,Clesi Crochet, the Spartans' Director of Football Operations and Beca Perez, the Spartans' Director of Player Personnel, the Spartans hosted several of the region's top 2025, 2026, 2027 and 2028 recruits on Monday.

Here is a look at some of the offers that went out and the players that caught our attention.

-Clovis (Calif.) 2026 quarterback Deagan Rose was the top prospect we saw on Monday and he's one of the best quarterbacks in the West. Arizona State offensive coordinator Marcus Arroyo was watching him closely and the Sun Devils could be the next school to offer Rose. A top 30 quarterback nationally, Rose has seen his recruitment take off this spring, with Auburn and Oregon two of the more notable offers while Arizona, Cal and Oregon State have also offered.

-We loved Oakland (Calif.) McClymonds 2026 athlete Rahsjon Duncanat last month's OAL Showcase at McClymonds HS and he didn't disappoint on Monday. He's the top 2026 recruit in Oakland and holds offers from Arizona and Washington State. While he can play either side of the ball, he was a lock down cover corner at the camp.

-The East Bay also has El Cerrito (Calif.) 2026defensive back Savion Bandy and he may have been the most physically imposing DB, showing zero willingness to let receivers past him in press and running stride for stride with them.Arizona State, Portland State, San Diego State, UNLV and Washington have all offered Bandy and we wouldn't be surprised if he's in double-digits by the end of summer.

-Folsom (Calif.) 2026 receiver Isaiah Williams had Washington State offer him after the camp. Williams was one of the more dynamic receivers at the camp, showing good hands, separation and body control throughout the camp. Teaming with the top 2026 quarterback out West, Ryder Lyons, we anticipate Williams' recruitment surging even more.

-Concord (Calif.) De La Salle running back Dominic Kelley was probably the top running back we saw on Monday, showing burst and acceleration throughout the day and good hands in catching passes out of the backfield. San Jose State offered under the previous staff and the new staff has reaffirmed his offer and he should see more offers come in.

-The Spartans have targeted Hanford (Calif.) quarterback Daniel Gomez as their primary quarterback in the class. Gomez was a commit to Fresno State but opened things up and San Jose State quickly jumped on him. San Diego State is also involved here but with Gomez camping with the Spartans, its clear San Jose State is trying to get him in to their class.

-Concord (Calif.) Clayton Valley tight end Tony Keck was one of the more polished pass-catchers at the camp. He's always been a plus receiver but he looks more physical and quicker and is poised for a big final prep campaign. UNLV, Army and Portland State are among his offers.

A stock up guy for us is Los Gatos (Calif.) offensive tackle Leonardo Cocchiglia. A long, lanky tackle with an optimal frame, he showed great flexibility and bend and violent hands. Eastern Washington and Idaho have already offered him but we wouldn't be surprised if more offers come his way.

-Brentwood (Calif.) Liberty 2026 linebacker Viliami Lotoaniufirst caught our attention at last month's East Bay Showcase at Monte Vista HS in Danville, Calif., and he again caught our eye on the hoof. With a frame all of 6-3, 210-pounds and more room to add on weight, he looked agile and quick and should see more offers add to early offers from Central Michigan and Nevada.

-Orinda (Calif.) Miramonte 2026 receiver Andrew Bjornson is one of the fastest players in the region, with a top five 40 at April's Under Armour Camp in Seattle and he's explosive and long, making him a difficult cover. Bjornson already has an offer from UNLV and more schools are keeping a close eye on him.

-Pittsburg (Calif.) 2026 quarterback Berell Staples was one of the more productive passers in the state and the smooth southpaw looked pretty much flawless on Monday. He is best at the intermediate and short routes but can also make the deep throws, throwing his receivers open. UNLV was the first school to go on him.

-Concord (Calif.) Clayton Valley athlete Justin Underwood-Nausaimonemay have been the most physically imposing player we saw with the running backs. While he could play a number of positions, and looks like an ideal linebacker, schools like his positional versatility, with Portland State his first offer.

-Walnut Creek (Calif.) Las Lomas 2026 quarterback Dylan Thomas was right there among the most consistent passers of the day. Just two days after throwing at the Under Armour Next Camp in Salt Lake City, Thomas was back out at San Jose State throwing.

-Bountiful (Utah) Viewmont athlete Kingston Mickens was another guy we saw on Saturday at UA who wasted no time getting back out to San Jose State. Holding offers from Cal, San Diego State and UNLV, Mickens was another physical DB who gave no slack to the receivers he covered.
