Position Summary

The Open Educational Resources (OER) Specialist, under the direction of the Open Educational Resources Project Lead and/or Supervisor, will assist faculty in finding and adopting Open Educational Resources and other free resources to create zero textbook costs sections.

This Position Requires Specialized Skills IncludingStrong computer skills in desktop and web-based applications including:

BenefitsTemporary employees earn 1 hour of sick leave for every 30 hours they worked, up to a maximum of 48 hours.

Assignment Responsibilities

DutiesThis position will assist faculty who are participating in CRC’s Open Educational Resources (OER) Award Program by supporting the adoption and creation of open and affordable course content. After an initial training period, duties may include, but not limited to:

Providing expert guidance to faculty wishing to pursue open access avenues for course development

Advising on intellectual property issues and copyright generally in the publishing process

Compiling and formatting OER materials that instructors have written or selected

for use in their courses. This could happen in various settings, including the

LibreTexts platform and the Canvas learning management system

Helping to maintain and update information provided on the ZTC at CRC website

Helping with processing and scanning of library materials to be made available through controlled digital lending

Recording and tracking the development of OER projects, keeping communication with instructors open to better facilitate the creation and adoption of OER and free materials, including purchased textbooks

Participating in outreach activities to promote open access scholarly dissemination

Flexible hours with a combination of remote work and some in-office work at CRC as needed.

NOTE: Short-term temporary employees shall not be employed for more than 135 days, or 960 hours, whichever is reached first, in any fiscal year.

Special Requirements

Minimum QualificationsExperience: One year of experience in a clerical position;OR, two years of experience in any type of task-oriented working environment.

Education: Completion of an Associate’s Degree or 60 semester units (90 quarter units).

Have an equity-minded focus, responsiveness, and sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in learning styles; and successfully foster and support an inclusive educational and employment environment.

(Experience Requirement: One year of experience is equal to 12 months of experience at 40 hours per week. Applicable part-time experience will be converted to the full-time equivalent for purposes of meeting the experience requirement.Education Requirement: One year of education is equal to 30 semester units.)
