I have been in love with this gorgeous old house since the Susan Sarandon-Julia Roberts tear-jerker “Stepmom” arrived in movie theaters back in 1998. Some of the filming locations I’ve featured get talked about more often online (“Something’s Gotta Give,” anyone?), but this is one of my personal favorites.

The stunning property overlooks the Hudson River in Upper Nyack, New York, and is known as Glenholme. It was built in 1854 and has 6 bedrooms, 4 baths, and 5,239 square feet.

I first featured it over a decade ago when the homeowner shared photos with us of what the real interiors looked like at the time. I was told that the exteriors were filmed on location, but the rooms were replicated on a soundstage for the film, and it was fun to compare the two side by side.

When I heard that the house was on the market again, I couldn’t click over to see the listing fast enough. It has been updated and staged since the last time we saw it. Take a look!

This screenshot from “Stepmom” shows how this corner of the house looked two and a half decades ago:

The house has also appeared in other movies, including “The Bounty Hunter” starring Jennifer Aniston and Gerard Butler:

And in the second season of the TV show “Lipstick Jungle,” it was called “Fielding Farm:”

Interestingly, the Production Designer for “Stepmom” was Stuart Wurtzel.
He was also the Production Designer for “Lipstick Jungle.”
Can’t blame him if he wanted to return and work with this house again!

One of the notable features of the house is the three-sided wrap-around veranda.

The Entry Hall, Staircase, and Living Room:

On “Lipstick Jungle,” they shot an episode called “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Prada” inside the house.
This was in 2008, but the front door, pillars, and other details appear to remain mostly unchanged:

The show was based on a novel by Candace Bushnell by the same name.

It starred Brooke Shields, Kim Raver, and Lindsay Price as friends navigating love and careers in New York City.

This episode, where they spend a weekend at this house, was one of my favorites because we got to see more of it.

This is how the living room looked in the movie “Stepmom:”

In this screenshot from “Stepmom” (below), you can see how similar the staircase and front hall are.
However, the walls and doors are slightly different if you look closely:

The Dining Room:

That wall of windows is spectacular.
I did a double-take when I saw this because it is much lighter and brighter than it used to be.
The room looked very different when the former homeowner sent me this photo of it in 2011 (below):

The Kitchen

Here’s how the kitchen looked when it belonged to Susan Sarandon’s character Jackie:

You can see the similarities in it and the kitchen today, including the back staircase:

Note: I was told that these interiors were inspired by the real rooms of the house but recreated on a soundstage, whereas “Lipstick Jungle” filmed on location. However, if you have heard differently, let me know!

For the movie “Stepmom,” they created this charming sitting area at the top of the stairs:
