I JUST WOKE UP in the UK's best city for quality of life. In my own bed. Aye, you read that right.According to research by The Telegraph and Savills, Dunfermline has Britain's best combo for VFM and a high standard of living. Highlights include: * Dunfermline Abbey - where King Robert the Bruce is buried (as well as tons of other monarchs). * Townhill Loch and Country Park (AKA ma auld stompin grund,Toonhill Loch and Wids).* 32 minute commute to fancy financial jobs in Edinburgh, but houses average £133,000 cheaper.And Dunfy's "buzzing scene of independent businesses and makers" is also praised. Which I've definitely got the gall to call myself part of. So all told, I better get ahead of the game and raise my prices.Before this place is packed to the gunnels with glory hunter Chelsea types and every second shop is selling Irn-Bru soaked cornflakes for 15 quid a bowl.Not to mention my assistants Keith sh*tpants and Faye Kelty. Once they get wind of this, they'll deffo ask for raises (FFS, they're already living large in Spoons on a generous £5.50 an hour).So if you want to grab unmistakably human B2B blogs, case studies and web copy before it all gets eye-wateringly expensive, do it soon.Because come February morning, you'll have to get comfy with Dunfy prices. Course, I'm still 'passionate about copywriting', yada yada.And none of this will change me. ...but I've tried the whole skint thing and I personally cannae wait to be totally minted. If you want to lift the morale of a town, or a city, then sporting success goes a long way - so good luck to Leigh Leopards RLFC ahead of their first Rugby League Challenge Cup final since 1971.The colourful owner Derek Beaumont hasn’t just changed the club’s name to the Leigh Leopards RLFC, but has galvanised the whole town to give them a source of pride.Much as it irks me to say so, but the success of Burnley Football Club last season has been a lesson in leadership, from the owners through to the inspired appointment of Vincent Kompany as manager.Obviously that will be severely tested in the first game against Manchester City Football Club.I hope you’ve enjoyed our pre-season analyses of the football business. It’s an important sector in our region and a generator of wealth and hopefully wellbeing.However, the surest way to dent that civic morale is job cuts and empty shops and offices.In a previous life we used to measure the economic life of a place by the size of the local branch of Wilko. Their collapse, which Sam Metcalf, our colleague in the East Midlands, has covered so well, is a stark reminder of the squeeze on our High Streets and the tough competition in discount retail.There’s also a storm coming in the trendy office market.WeWork occupy just four prestige sites in Manchester, but they have hubs all over London.The tide is in favour of their funky and flexible model. It just looks like they’ve paid too high a price to get to this position.For a week at least I will cleanse my mind of market dynamics in discount retail, professional sport and property.For now though, we've issued a breaking news alert about the The Co-operative Bank plc making its first asset purchase in a decade. A merger with Shawbrook Bank could well follow their acquisition of Sainsbury's Bank mortgage book.I’m going off for a week, and will be enjoying the delights of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
