More than two decades after lifting his first world championship, Ronnie O'Sullivan has made history by claiming his seventh.

Credit to runner-up Judd Trump, who made a real match of it by coming from 12-5 down to really put O'Sullivan under pressure in his historic quest.

For Trump, there will be other days - but tonight was all about the Rocket and his lift-off into snooker immortality.

Thanks very much for joining us on our live text coverage, we hope you've enjoyed it - see you in 12 months when O'Sullivan will return in a bid to make the record all his own.

  2. Read the report

What a two days it has been - indeed, what a fortnight, as the World Championship once again delivered in spades at the Crucible.

Read Steve Sutcliffe's report here - on the night that Ronnie O'Sullivan finally fulfilled his destiny and drew level on seven world titles with fellow all-time great Stephen Hendry.

  3. What they said

    O'Sullivan 18-13 Trump

"The most talented sportsman in Britain," said John Parrott.

"He's taken snooker to new heights - a winning machine," enthused Stephen Hendry.

"The greatest result I've ever had," claimed Ronnie O'Sullivan.

"The best player of all time," insisted beaten finalist Judd Trump.

Not a bad array of accolades that.

  4. How the Rocket made history

    O'Sullivan 18-13 Trump

It was a rollercoaster World Championship final in many respects but it always looked as if the Rocket would be the one crossing the line first.

Few will forget the co*cked hat double that helped him amass an early 5-1 lead - an advantage he stretched to 12-5 despite a couple of disagreements with referee Olivier Marteel.

Ronnie could even afford a bad day at the office on Monday afternoon as Judd Trump pulled back to 14-11.

He claimed the four frames he needed during the evening session to tie Stephen Hendry's record in style.

  5. Record-breaking Rocket

There are few records left for Ronnie O'Sullivan to break at the Crucible.

But you can rest assured he'll have his eye on removing the 'joint with Stephen Hendry' brackets from the below graphic - even if he claims he's not bothered about records.

Mr Jones: What a tournament. Record 109 centuries. A 147 (two including qualifying). So much drama and great matches. And greatest player in snooker wins championship to equal record for most championship title wins.

SMS Message: It'll be a farce if Ronnie doesn't win SPOTY. Enigmatic, the GOAT without a doubt, and he could still be winning into his 50s. He's just shown how much he really does care and we're the fortunate ones getting to witness true genius at work. from Marc

  7. Watch: How O'Sullivan clinched seventh world title

If you missed it earlier - or even if you didn't - here's the historic moment when Ronnie O'Sullivan clinched his seventh Crucible title.

His hug with opponent Judd Trump lasted almost as long as the final frame itself - lovely to see.

  8. Ronnie v Hendry: Who's the GOAT?

    O'Sullivan 18-13 Trump

The arguments will go on regardless but Ronnie O'Sullivan has given further credence to those who believe he is the greatest snooker player of all time.

And if he can win the big one at 46, why not at 47? And 48? Even 50?

He's got at least one more in him, hasn't he? (Sorry, Stephen...)

Michael Potts: What a tournament! Thoroughly, thoroughly enjoyed that. Ronnie, a deserving champion. Looked so steady, composed and consistent since Day 1. No self-destructions, no critical implosions, just head down and found a way each time.

SnookerShorts: The level of concentration that O'Sullivan displayed through this whole tournament was nothing like I've ever seen from him before. He didn't have a favourable draw yet he was the most clinical I've seen for a while.

  10. Another one to add to the list

    O'Sullivan 18-13 Trump

Something tells us we might need a bigger graphic - he's not stopping at seven, is he?

It's amazing when you think about it - 21 years after his first world title, Ronnie O'Sullivan has virtually cruised to his seventh.

Even more amazing? None of the finals - against some of the sport's greats, world champions past and, potentially, future - have even been close.

  11. Another record broken

    O'Sullivan 18-13 Trump

As well as equalling Stephen Hendry's mark of seven Crucible titles, Ronnie O'Sullivan has surpassed Ray Reardon as the oldest world champion in history.

Reardon, who acted as a mentor to the Rocket for part of his career, was 45 when he lifted the title in 1978.

O'Sullivan is 46 - and who would bet against him breaking his own record in years to come?

James Stevenson: If Ronnie O’Sullivan isn’t winning BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2022 someone’s done something truly monumental and extraordinary between now and mid-December.

Daniel Hurst: Well done Ronnie! No reason at all why he can't push the record to eight in the future - when on form he's as good as ever.

  13. Post update

    O'Sullivan 18-13 Trump

    Ronnie O'Sullivan to BBC TV:

"We all knew Judd wasn't playing his best - but that's what a champion does, they still get to the final and nearly win it.

"He will win this a few times and the other guys better get their act together."

    John Parrott

1991 world champion on BBC Two

I think he's the most talented sportsman in Britain. This is Tiger Woods level. He has 21 majors, seven in all of the big ones, and plays to a level a lot of players can never aspire to.

  15. Post update

    Stephen Hendry

Seven-time world champion on BBC Two

Ronnie has taken snooker to new heights and I'm actually surprised it's taken so long to win seven.

I am sure he won't be happy until he's got eight. He's a winning machine. He says he's not bothered about records but he will want eight.

It's been an astounding performance the way he's dominated this tournament.

  16. Route to the title

    O'Sullivan 18-13 Trump

In truth, Judd Trump was the only player to really push Ronnie O'Sullivan during this year's tournament.

Recovering to 14-11 from 12-5 down, Trump asked a question of the Rocket - and boy did he respond.
